What materials does Brickstar use for masonry?

We use a variety of materials for masonry including brick, stone, concrete, and stucco. We work with our clients to determine the best material for their specific project.

What types of projects does Brickstar specialize in?

We specializes in a wide range of masonry projects including: residential homes, commercial buildings, chimneys, outdoor fireplaces, patios, and more.

What kind of mortar do you use for historical masonry?

Historical mortar is much softer than today’s Portland cement.

When repairing or restoring antique brickwork, we use a mason’s lime mix with a Type O mortar — specially formulated to match the softness and flexibility of older materials.

Historic bricks need to “breathe,” allowing for natural expansion and contraction. Using the correct mortar is critical to preserving the integrity and longevity of historical structures.

Why is my chimney leaking?

There are many reasons why a chimney would be leaking. Cracks in the cement wash, spalling and deteriorating bricks, cracked mortar joints, improper flashing or needing resealed or missing rain cap.

How do we fix spalling bricks?

We cut out the spalling bricks and replace them. Then use a repellant not sealant so the bricks can ‘breathe’ to extend the life and prevent further deterioration; crumbling or chipping bricks, which eventually lead to the surface of the bricks from the main body of the structure.
